Five reasons to go on vacation to Romania
Take a vacation to Romania! Why? Because you probably are struggling with picking a destination for your next vacation abroad. You might have seen almost all of Europe and other parts of the world, but you’ve never been to Romania. The country is on your list, but you’re not quite convinced yet. So why should you take a vacation to Romania? Here are five reasons to help you make up your mind.
-
The diversity you will find on vacation to Romania
There is no exaggeration in saying that Romania is one of the most diverse countries in Europe. The population is evenly divided between countryside- and city life. This makes both the villages and the cities lively places worth seeing. Every region has its own particularities, history and even architecture, so at every step there will be something new to discover.
Furthermore, Romania has all different types of landscapes: plains, hills, mountains, the Black Sea and the Danube Delta. Thus, whether you are into long beach walks or intense mountain hikes, into visiting museums or relaxing on a terrace, in Romania you can do it all.

The people are friendly and welcoming
You’ve probably heard this a lot of times before, so we’ll say it once more to confirm. Romanians are very warm, welcoming people. They like to show the beauty of their country to visitors, to welcome them in their homes and having them taste their delicious food. Be assured, a visit to a Romanian home won’t be complete without a bite to eat and a glass of “palinca” (plum brandy).

The authentic experience of the countryside
Travelling to the Romanian countryside, whether it’s Transylvania, Maramures or Bucovina, will feel like travelling through time. These are, probably, the last places in Europe where you will find peasants riding a horse and carriage, using a scythe when making hay and living in small, traditional homes. Especially old people in these regions still practice old crafts such as weaving, embroidery and wood-sculpting. As it happens all over the world, progress is slowly creeping in the Romanian villages, so don’t wait to long to pay a visit!

The very delicious food
Yes, Romanian food is not just good, it’s delicious. However, don’t expect sophisticated dishes with too much decorations. Romanian food is simple, honest and tasty. Every (big) city has at least one good restaurant with traditional food. Nevertheless, the food in the countryside tastes best and varies from region to region. Street food is also something worth trying so while roaming the markets or busy shopping streets look for “mici” or “placinte”. “Mici” are spicy meat rolls, usually served with bread and mustard. “Placinte” are fried dough buns with various fillings, from the common sheep cheese to sautéed onions or sauerkraut.

The prices are low
Romania is a cheap country, compared to western European countries. Of course, prices in Romania are not as low as in Asia or South America, so don’t expect things to be almost free. Romania is part of the EU, after all. That being said, a good dinner in a Romanian restaurant will cost up to 20 euro/person including drinks. A simple lunch will take you up to 10 euro and having a snack on the street won’t be more than 1-2 euro per person. A beer (bottle or draft) costs anywhere from 1 euro to 3 euro, depending on the location. Generally, prices are lower in the countryside and higher in the bigger cities.

Bună dimineața Romtours,
We are planning to go to a friend’s wedding (Saturday 2 May) near Craiova, then also to visit Brașov in May 2021. Can you suggest the best way of flying from UK to Romania, hire a car and accommodation (B&B) in Brașov please?
Any London airports will be fine, but Gatwick, then Heathrow are preferred (early morning flights out: 07:00+, early evening flights back: up to 20:00).
A trip with 2 to 3 days before the wedding and 3 to 4 days afterwards will be fine.
Thank you.
Best regards și toate cele bune,
Ian.
